Notes from the composer:
What is fascinating for me about Journey from the Fall is that on one hand, with a story involving two countries, a timeline of 7 years, and a desperate voyage across the ocean, the circumstances of this saga can seem epic. However, the true emotional core of the film relies on stories that are very intimate: the relationships between a woman, her estranged child, and the mother in-law who refuses to believe her son is dead; an unlikely friendship between two prisoners borne out of the necessity of survival...it is these stories that make the film a human story more than a political one. Reflected in the score is music that ranges from an orchestral string section illustrating the vastness of the sea, to a solo guitar echoing the solitude of a camp prisoner.
