First Morning is the story of a Vietnamese family that is forced to flee the country during the Vietnam War. Their arduous journey to the United States is one that causes the family to be split apart for many years. While some tragedies can never be undone, the family perseveres in hope of a better future. Director Victor Vu hired Christopher based on the merits of his score to The Anniversary, but also challenged him to compose a score that would reflect the different aspects of Eastern and Western culture, a theme prevalent in the story of this family living in a culture that is not their own.
